We are so Proud...
Last week we read "We are so Proud." The children worked on setting and characters of a story. In addition, we made a windsock during center time! Please continue to work with your child on the sight words "I" and "am." We will have two new sight words next week: "the" and "little."

We Had Fun...
We had a great week this past week. We worked in various centers and worked on following directions and learning procedures. The main area we worked on were numbers 1-4 and also the alphabet. It is very important for everyone to continue to work on their letter names. We are only concerned with letter names at this point. This coming week we will work with letters A-N. If your child is having difficulty with letters, then only work on the uppercase letters first, then once they are mastered work on lowercase letters.
We also had our first assembly on Friday afternoon. We had bully free winners. This is when a child in each class is recognized for their friendship. The teachers are looking for children who are being friends, sharing, and working hard in the classroom. We also recognized students who had "super powers." At this assembly I shared that all the kindergartners had the super power of being brave. All the children are doing a really good job coming into the building and getting to work right away. I was impressed with how well the first few weeks have been going! Thanks for all of your support!

This Week...
We will continue to work on rules and procedures this week! The children have been doing fairly good job. Some children do need some extra practice, but I am confident we will do a great job!
We will also be reading "The Little School Bus" and identify rhyming words. We will also learn our first two sight words: "I" and "am." We will begin our "Go Math" series and work on the numbers 1-4 this week. We will work on counting a set of objects and making sure we can identify these numbers in pictures, numbers, and words!

Group Time...
I was amazed by how well the children worked together to figure out missing words in a book. I went out on a limb and let the children choose their own groups and begin working to figure out missing words. The students had to read, comprehend, and problem solve to figure out the word. The students then had to write the word. I was amazed how well the children chose their groups and how they stayed on task the entire time. I was ready for chaos, but it was such a great sight to listen and to watch them work!
